Silicon supplement (BioSil) reduces wrinkles, improves hair and nails, according to new study.

Clinical Study Validates the Benefits of Jarrow Formulas® BioSil(TM)

Los Angeles, California, Friday, January 17, 2005– The results of a clinical trial investigating the effects of Jarrow Formulas® BioSil™ on sun damaged or prematurely aging skin, was presented at the International Symposium of the International Society for Bioengineering and the Skin, held in Orlando, FL October 28th, 2004.

Scientists at the Free University of Brussels conducted a 20-week double-blind placebo controlled study using 50 women ages 40 to 65, who had clear signs of sun damaged or prematurely aging skin. Half received 10 mg of BioSil™, while the other half received a placebo. The BioSil™ group experienced a significant improvement over the placebo group including:

• Shallower micro wrinkles: up to 30 percent better than placebo

• Improved skin elasticity: 55 percent better than placebo

• Significant reduction of brittleness in hair and nails

BioSil™ (US patent 5,922,360 and other patents pending) is a silicon supplement which contains a choline-stabilized and concentrated form of orthosilicic acid, ch-OSA™. Silicon is a key component in hair, skin and nails, and is essential for optimal formation of collagen. The observed improvement in skin parameters is likely the result of ch-OSA’s role in the regeneration or de novo synthesis of collagen fibers.
